Indian coal: record output levels despite logistical issues

India has been producing a record amount of coal every month in 2023 and Jan 2024. The growth in 2023 was 12.36% and in Jan 2024 was 10.87% aggregating a record volume for the month of Jan at 99.74 million metric tonnes (MMT). While Indian coal production can keep pace with consumption, the real bottle neck remains coal evacuation and logistics. It will be difficult to get Indian coal to travel to where the demand is.
